About StoneMatters

Because stone matters

Natural stone has been part of my life since 1986, from the production floor to more than 40 years of experience with deliveries, projects and a global network of quarries and producers.

Since 1986

I began working with natural stone in 1986. Back then I worked in production, where I aquired knowledge about natural stone from the ground up. I gained insight into the whole process, from the raw blocks arriving from the quarry to the finished product.

That is where my fascination with natural stone began, and it has stayed with me ever since.

Today, more than 40 years later, I still work with the same curiosity and respect for the material. That experience now spans thousands of deliveries, projects in several countries and a global network of quarries, producers and partners.

Why StoneMatters?

When it came to naming the company, the choice was simple.

StoneMatters means, to me, that stone matters.

Natural stone is not merely a building material. Every type of stone has its own expression, its own technical properties and its own history.

The right natural stone can give a building identity, create calm, add character and last for generations. But the right solution never happens by chance. It is built on experience, technical knowledge, aesthetic understanding and insight into how the material has to perform in the specific environment where it will be used.

Experience makes the difference

Over more than four decades I have imported virtually every type of natural stone for construction from most of the world.

I have supplied natural stone to projects in Denmark and the rest of Europe and built a strong international network of quarries, producers and partners. That makes it possible to find the right solution, whatever the size or complexity of the project.

Applications

I work with natural stone for almost every kind of building and construction:

  • Corporate HQs
  • Hotels
  • Office buildings
  • Housing
  • Facades
  • Floors
  • Stairs
  • Paving
  • Restoration
  • Churches
  • Bathrooms
  • Fireplaces
  • Solid special pieces
  • Artworks
  • Fixtures
  • Furniture
  • Bespoke solutions

Who I work with

I work with architects, contractors, developers, designers, landscapers, artists and private clients.

Some come with a finished specification. Others come with an idea or a vision.

My role is to translate wishes and visions into the right natural stone: technically, aesthetically and financially.

International experience

A large part of my knowledge comes from the many visits I have made over the years to quarries, factories and production facilities around the world. I have worked closely with producers across several continents and know where the quality is found and which production methods give the best results.

From 2002 to 2017 I ran a business in China, working directly with some of the world’s largest natural-stone production environments. There we supplied very large volumes of natural stone to the retail sector and a wide range of international construction projects.

It gave me unique experience of production, quality control, logistics and project management at an international level, and that experience continues to benefit my clients.

Technical advice

Natural stone is a living material. No two slabs are alike, and no two projects are the same. That is why there are no standard solutions.

I believe in dialogue, advice and the right solution rather than the quick one.

Over more than 40 years I have built a thorough knowledge of the technical properties and applications of natural stone. I advise on natural stone for both horizontal and vertical constructions, indoors and outdoors, and for projects in almost every climate zone.

Choosing the right stone is about far more than colour and appearance. It is about durability, load, climate, processing and the function the stone must fulfil for many years to come.

Natural stone: a material that lasts

There is another reason I continue to believe in natural stone as one of the most important building materials of the future.

Compared with many other building materials, natural stone requires only limited processing and contains no artificial binders or chemical additives.

Natural stone is also one of the few materials that can often be reused directly. Many historic buildings show that natural stone can last for centuries, and when a building one day changes function or is demolished, the stone can often be used again with minimal processing.

This gives natural stone a very long service life and makes it an obvious choice for buildings where responsible use of resources, lasting durability and circular thinking play an ever-greater role.

For me it is not about following a trend. It is about choosing materials that last.

Natural stone has proven its worth over millennia, and I am convinced that the material will also play a central role in the architecture of the future.

From quarry to finished project

When you work with StoneMatters, you gain more than access to natural stone from all over the world.

You gain more than four decades of experience, an international network and a partner who has been there the whole way, from quarry, production and quality control to the finished project.

More than 40 years of experience. One goal: the right stone for the right project.

My goal is simple: to find the right natural stone for the right project.

It is about knowledge, experience, quality and long-lasting relationships.

Because stone matters.

And it has, since 1986.
